The End of the Job Retention Scheme

There is a limited amount of time left to take advantage of the Government furlough scheme. On 30th September 2021, the grant that covers a percentage of your staff wages will no longer be available.

Government contributions in July only cover 70% of staff wages, with you making up 10%. In August and September, those contributions only cover 60%, meaning you have to make up 20%.

Start planning now to make the most of the scheme while it’s still in place. This way, you can avoid making tough decisions at the last moment and keep your business in good shape.

Navigating the End of Furlough

Don’t freeze a benefit if it’s contractually obligated without getting the employee’s permission first.

Don’t be afraid to use the furlough scheme while it’s still here. Re-furloughing employees, or putting them on flexible furlough, is a viable option until September 30th 2021. Doing this may provide you with the financial support you need to get your business back on track.

Don’t let standards slip during this time. You must issue each furloughed employee with a new letter each time the terms change.
